Guitar Shorty
1432 4th Street
Santa Monica, CA 90401
Price: Check w/venue for time and ticke

Guitar Shorty, aka David Kearney, was born in Houston, Texas but raised in Kissimee, Florida. As a young boy he would sneak into his uncle’s room and try to play his guitar. He was so small his hands didn’t fit around it’s neck, so he would lean it against the wall and play it like a stand up bass.

Right out of high school at the age of 16 Shorty joined Ray Charles and his band for a year. At the age of 17 he recorded a single under the direction of Willie Dixon on the Cobra label.

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Zac Harmon
1432 4th Street
Santa Monica, CA 90401

Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, Harmon is a disciple of the Farish Street blues sound. (Farish Street is universally recognized as the home of many great blues legends including the late, great Elmore James.). During the 50’s and 60’s Harmon hung out at his father’s pharmacy on Farish (first African-American pharmacy in Jackson), soaking up the aura and sounds of the musician customers while developing his skills as a guitarist, organist and vocalist. Like many he honed those skills while at church.

Sponsored by the Southern California Blues Society of Los Angeles, Harmon and the Mid South Blues Revue went on to win The Blues Foundation’s 2004 International Blues Challenge as “best unsigned blues band.” Since then there’s been no looking back with the release of the latest CD, “The Blues According to Zacariah,” appearances at US festivals, signing to a booking agent and international tours to Canada and France

Before Lucky turned six, his career had been propelled into the national spotlight with television appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and even What’s My Line?

As a child prodigy, Lucky was somewhat of a novelty act. Now he is a true blues veteran. Over the last three decades, Lucky has played to audiences all over the world, dazzling both fans and critics with his multi-instrumental talents (he plays keyboards, guitar, bass, drums and trumpet), his soulful vocal style and his youthful approach to the blues.

You choose, let's get out there and support LIVE blues !!
Saturday Night of Blues

Eric Lindell at Cafe Boogaloo in Hermosa Beach  :

In the two years since he joined Alligator, Eric Lindell has blossomed from regional cult artist to rising star with a burgeoning national fan base. Eric’s soul-drenched mix of blues, roots rock, and New Orleans R&B is fast becoming a radio staple.  Eric will be at Cafe Boogaloo for two nights, Friday the 22nd and Saturday the 23rd.

Rick Estrin & The Nightcats at the Langham-Huntington Hotel Pasadena:

Rick Estrin ranks among the very best harp players, singers and songwriters in the blues world today. His work on the reeds is deep in the tradition of harmonica masters Sonny Boy Williamson II and Little Walter Jacobs, while at the same time pushing that tradition forward

Eric Sardinas & Big Motor at Cozy's:

Eric's signature brand of Delta dynamite has been a long time in the making. At the incredible early age of six, he already had his fingers on the fret board. Both his 1999 debut "Treat Me Right" and follow up "Devil's Train" were choked-full of electrified Dobro thunder, but neither surrendered Eric's deeply rooted respect for traditional blues. Mixed alongside his aggressively soulful, self- penned compositions were searing renditions of several obscure treasures from the back catalogues of classic blues artists.Looking back on his two first albums Sardinas can now insightfully reflect, "These records explored everything I'd learned, but at the same time they used blues as a jumping off point to go deeper."

Doug MacLeod at McCabes in Santa Monica

Blues Music Awards 2010 Nominee: Acoustic Artist of the Year  -  Over 26 years, 13 studio albums, several live records and two DVDs, MacLeod has consistently earned raves. His songs have been covered by many artists including Albert King, Albert Collins, Joe Louis Walker and Eva Cassidy. He has co-written songs with Dave Alvin and Coco Montoya. MacLeod's songs have been featured in many TV movies and the hit show In the Heat of the Night.

Barbara Morrison - 8:00pm
6725 West Sunset Blvd
Hollywood, CA 90028
Didn't get enough at the Battle of the Blues Diva's this past October? If not, catch Barbara at the Catalina Bar & Grill. The dazzling Barbara Morrison has been featured on over 20 recordings. She has dazzled fans of a wide aray of genres from traditional Jazz and Blues to Gospel and Pop. Her melodic voice, with its two-and-a-half-octave range, is known worldwide, as are her rich, unique, soulful and highly spirited interpretations of both, familiar Jazz and Blues classics and original contemporary tunes. Equally as striking is Ms. Morrison's ability to belt out down-home, soul-stirring Blues. Her impassioned renditions of old and favorite torch songs are nothing short of breathtaking.
